Admissions are now open for 2025/2026
On behalf of everyone connected with the school, may I first welcome all the new families who have joined us at BIS Abu Dhabi this term. Starting remotely won’t be ideal but we all look forward to welcoming you in person in a couple of weeks’ time. The school staff and the parent groups will be only too happy to help you and your children however we can in order that you can make the most of our school.
I hope that everyone has had a good start in these first couple of days. It would have been wonderful to see you all in school but we trust and follow the guidance of the authorities. Sunday, January 17th will be a very special day when we can welcome everyone back in school again and it is one we are all looking forward to.
Over the holiday our senior students have received some exciting University offers and we look forward to sharing these with you in the coming weeks. Even for our Primary families, it is nice to hear about the success of the older students. I am sure many fellow parents will tell you that even if exams and Universities seems a long way off now it will come around very quickly!
Learning throughout school is a journey that lasts about 15 years for most people – from the age of 3 through to 18. The curriculum is planned to increase in breadth and challenge as students get older and I know that many will have begun this term with exciting new topics. We should never forget the joy of learning and of discovering new things - there is a great deal of wonder to behold throughout school life and it is such a privilege to share this with young people.
My thanks as ever to all parents for their support throughout their children’s time at school and for enjoying the joy and wonder of learning alongside them.
Patrick Horne,
Principal
The penultimate week of term always brings a mix of energy and reflection. Lessons are still purposeful, but there is also a sense of looking back, recognising just how far our students have come.
This year, we have seen strong academic success across the school. Students have worked hard, and the outcomes reflect that effort. But just as important have been the achievements beyond the classroom in music, sport, language, technology, and the arts. Our curriculum is broad for a reason, and it has been clear this year that our students are thriving in many ways.
Celebrating Our Shared Success: A Year of Partnership and Recognition
As we approach the end of a vibrant academic year filled with events, achievements, and memorable moments, I am delighted to share some fantastic news with you all. Our school has been honoured with not one, but two prestigious awards in recognition of our commitment to parent engagement: the MENA Parent Partnership Award and the ADEK Best Parent Engagement Award.
Read on to discover how these awards celebrate our collaborative culture, highlight parent-school partnerships, and support meaningful improvements for our students.
It’s something I’ve believed for a long time — that learning isn’t predetermined by our genes. It’s about growing, persevering, and learning through the process. I was really mindful of this idea at this week’s wonderful Primary Summer Concert, after which I found myself reflecting on whether these amazing children have an innate talent, or whether they have achieved so much because of hard work and practice.
I believe it’s the latter. These children, their parents, and their teachers all seem to share the belief that by trying and working hard, they will get better at what they do. This is what we call a growth mindset.
At BIS Abu Dhabi, we believe that when families and schools team up, incredible things happen. We’re proud to have won the Parent Partnership category at both the ADEK Awards 2024/25 and the MENA School Excellence Awards 2025, but this award is about more than just recognition. It’s about the people, the conversations, and the community that make it all possible.
Read on to discover how we’re making a difference together.
