The students from Years 9 and 10 were competing against 6 top performing schools. Over three events, the schools competed against each other by solving maths problems, all based around the United Kingdom Mathematics Trust (UKMT) maths challenge that the top students from BIS Abu Dhabi compete in every year.
Successfully, BIS Abu Dhabi students thrived, finishing joint top at all three events, scoring an incredible 100% at each event! This led to a tiebreaker for the top two schools. Under time pressure, sadly BIS Abu Dhabi were pipped to the final solution and were left to settle for a very valiant second place overall.
The students really enjoyed travelling across to other schools, competing against other students, and solving the problems. More competitions are being planned for future terms!
The penultimate week of term always brings a mix of energy and reflection. Lessons are still purposeful, but there is also a sense of looking back, recognising just how far our students have come.
This year, we have seen strong academic success across the school. Students have worked hard, and the outcomes reflect that effort. But just as important have been the achievements beyond the classroom in music, sport, language, technology, and the arts. Our curriculum is broad for a reason, and it has been clear this year that our students are thriving in many ways.
